WLA Cheer and Stunt Team Take First at State!

Saturday, February, 14th was an awesome day to be a part of the Winnebago Lutheran Academy Cheer and Stunt Team. The girls’ took home a first place win at the State cheerleading competition held at the Brown County Arena in Green Bay, WI. The only competition they had was Crivitz High School who had an awesome routine as well. The competition was tough but the Vikings ended the day with a first place trophy.
This isn’t the first time the WLA Cheer and Stunt Team have done well at the State competition. They also took first place back in 2007. Not only did they take first place that year, but their coach, Darcy Rahjes, received the “Coach of the Year” award. Darcy has been the cheer coach at WLA for the past twelve years. “She is an awesome coach and an awesome role model for me and the rest of the cheerleaders,” said WLA cheerleader Kaitlyn Loest.
The girls were coming off a first place finish at the Regional competition help on January 31st at Oshkosh North High School. They were up against Crivitz at this competition as well. They beat them by a landslide. The girls knew that Crivitz would be out to get them for the first place title at State.
Although the Crivitz cheerleaders gave an awesome performance at State, they dropped two of their stunts which gave them a four point deduction. The WLA cheerleaders dropped zero stunts and everything in their routine looked flawless. “It was the best I had ever seen them perform this routine,” WLA assistant coach Vikki Paul said.
“This means so much to our team. We have worked so hard to be here and we are extremely happy with this first place win,” said WLA Cheer and Stunt team member Kayla Weichman.
